The Grounds

Timber Hill is approached along a private leafy lane, which emerges to reveal an open, unspoilt valley. Here the lodges are landscaped into various levels and enhanced with thoughtful planting of trees, shrubs and open areas of grass and wildflowers.

You may choose to spend time relaxing at your lodge, enjoying this oasis of peace or maybe take a stroll around the approximately 100 acres making up the estate. There are many lovely walks through the woods and fields, with bridges crossing a pretty stream which runs through the valley, you can discover small hidden waterfalls and stunning views. In addition to the fishing lake at the top of the hill opposite the lodges, three shallow pools form part of a conservation area in the valley and which are a focus for dragonflies, damselflies, and fascinating pond life and a peaceful spot to take a seat.

The whole valley is a haven which attracts a huge variety of birds and wildlife. Watch out for foxes on the field opposite, and in addition to rabbits (including a black variety) you may see badgers quite close to the lodges. Barn owls, tawny owls and sparrow hawks have all nested here and there are around 30 monitored bird boxes in various parts of the grounds, which provide a home for a large population of blue and great tits amongst others.

Children will love the outside space and freedom to explore and play, and many families become regular visitors. Guests who spent happy holidays at Timber Hill as children themselves often return as adults with their own offspring to ensure they have the same carefree experiences.
