The tenth edition of Pembrokeshire Ironman Wales gets ready to host its popular triathlon event. It will take place this Sunday 11th September. We are thrilled to celebrate its return to Tenby, following the two year hiatus due to the Covid pandemic.

36 per cent of its participants are Welsh athletes. Amongst these, Welsh rugby legend Shane Williams who competed in the 2019 event with Gareth Thomas will be returning. Whilst there will be over 1000 taking on their first full-distance Ironman 2022.

Don’t miss all the action and excitement, as the Ironman Wales is set to start at 6.55pm at North beach Tenby on Sunday with the professional men’s field.

The rolling age group with begin at 7am, following the amateur athletes between the ages of 18 to 76.

The event comprises of a 2.4 mile swim around Goscar Rock in Carmarthen Bay before a run up the North Beach zigzag on their way to transition. If that wasn’t tough enough, the athletes must take on a 112-mile bike ride, cycling through Pembrokeshire’s beautiful countryside, which involves steep hills, epic descents and 2,000 metres of climbing.

They will pass by Castles, iconic landmarks and a vibrant crowd of supporters as they climb the gruelling St Brides Hill and down into Tenby’s town centre for the final section of the event.

The last leg of the challenge is but a full marathon, that’s 26.2 miles to cover on foot, as the athletes pass through the medieval town and the stunning beachfront of Southwest Wales.

Expect a buzzing town full of atmosphere as you hear cheers of tens of thousands of supporters who have travelled to see the unmissable event.

The red carpet will be set along Tenby’s Esplanade once again, where the triumphant athletes will be crossing the finishing line, where Paul Kaye will announce the event’s tenth anniversary edition.

In celebration of this years Ironman Wales, the festival with be sponsored by UWTSD running from noon fo 5pm Saturday September 10th to kick start the event. Iron-kids will be hosting a treasure hunt for the first time throughout Tenby from tomorrow, Thursday September 8th to Saturday September 10th.

It will be a fantastic and memorable day out for all the family to enjoy.
